Aaron Gayle Court, Partridge Way, Haringey, London

We were appointed by a design and build contractor to prepare information for the discharge of landscape planning conditions, tendering and construction. The project involved a new residential development with an integrated public open space.

The 0.15 ha site comprises two distinct areas. The first occupies a former garage site, where a new nine-storey building provides 23 council homes. The second comprises communal grassland with several existing trees and paths. Our proposals followed the consented planning scheme prepared by ME Landscape Studio.

Bounds Green Road runs along the southern boundary of the new building. A grass median strip separates the road, with several new trees proposed within it. To the north, Partridge Way provides access to the existing council estate. Meanwhile, existing low-rise council housing defines the southern and eastern edges of the green space.

Around the new building, our design addressed the existing and proposed levels. In addition, we provided Part M compliant access at all thresholds. This required stepped and ramped routes, together with associated handrails and Part K compliant barriers.

For the existing green space, we proposed landscape enhancements and a new community playground. Furthermore, we retained as many existing trees as possible. Where feasible, we located the playground perimeter railings within planting. Consequently, the planting will help screen the railings as it establishes and matures.

The proposed playground provides play opportunities for children aged 0 to 11 years. It incorporates a range of play equipment and impact-absorbing surfaces. In addition, we strategically located benches to provide comfortable seating for parents and carers.
