We were appointed by StockWool Architects as landscape architects for this mixed-use residential scheme in West London. Initially, our landscape architect developed a sketch landscape design for the approved planning scheme. This helped the architect secure client approval. We then prepared landscape architect information to support the discharge of Planning Conditions. Following approval, we produced a full tender package for the soft landscape works.
Our landscape architects carefully considered the courtyard and south frontage of the residential block. Both areas sit above a podium deck over lower-ground-floor car parking. Therefore, the landscape design needed to provide suitable growing conditions within the podium structure. We carefully detailed the planters to accommodate grass, shrubs and climbing plants.
The landscape architect also considered the interface between the level landscape to the south and the sloping footway of Llanvanor Road. This elevation has a significant level change. Consequently, the proposed retaining wall required careful detailing. The design creates a more attractive and coherent external environment.
The planting design also responded to the challenging conditions above the podium deck. In particular, the landscape architect considered the limited soil depth available for planting. We also assessed the shade cast by the proposed buildings. These factors helped determine suitable plant species and growing conditions.
The courtyard elevations incorporate climbing plants to create green wall effects. Our landscape architects carefully developed the planting design for these areas. As a result, the proposed species respond to the available light, soil conditions and growing environment. The landscape design therefore combines visual amenity with a practical and sustainable approach to planting.
