Totteridge Lane, Totteridge, Barnet, London

A developer client appointed us as landscape architects for this new-build residential development in Totteridge, North London. As landscape architects, we developed a sketch landscape design for client approval. We then prepared the landscape architect’s information required to discharge the landscape-related planning conditions.

Following approval, our landscape architects produced a comprehensive package of technical landscape information. This package supported the tendering of the external works. During construction, we also monitored the landscape works on site as they progressed.

Our landscape architecture services included general arrangement drawings, planting plans and schedules, detailed technical sections and a full NBS specification. We coordinated the landscape design with the wider architectural and engineering requirements.

At the front of the site, our landscape architect’s design accommodated several access requirements. These included vehicular access to the car lift within the building envelope. The design also incorporated the main pedestrian route to the building entrance.

In addition, the landscape design accommodated service and refuse vehicle movements. Turning requirements also influenced the layout of this frontage zone. We therefore created a single paved shared surface for pedestrians and vehicles. A resin-bonded finish defines the pedestrian zone and vehicular overrun areas.

To the rear, the development includes several private roof garden patios. These patios sit on the structural slab of the basement car park podium deck. For simplicity and ease of construction, we specified paving slabs installed on pedestals. Meanwhile, we located all planting on the structural slab within raised planters.

The rear of the site also provides a communal garden. Our landscape architects retained several existing trees and introduced additional planting. Furthermore, the landscape design incorporates wildlife-friendly planting to enhance biodiversity.

Overall, our landscape architect services helped integrate access, planting, private amenity spaces and communal landscape areas. The design also supported the client’s sustainability objectives and helped achieve the required Code for Sustainable Homes credits.
